Show us your popular merchandise and why you think it appeals! Maybe it's the colour. Maybe it's the subject. Maybe it's just that you tried something completely outrageously different that people had to buy it. What ever it is, share it. Lets discuss it!

I'll start the ball rolling here too:-

[link] - Zeth Bond poster. This one is currently my best selling poster by far. I believe it's popular due to the attitude, the dynamic of the picture, the fact it's a genre people don't tap at Doujin Overload much, and because vectors isn't something you generally see in posters in NZ. IT's a clean poster, and it's easy to see on a wall.

[link] - Angel Athena. This poster has hauled my ass through most of the cons I've been through for obvious reasons. Athena looks elegant, and inspires emotion, but does it in a way that is slightly erotic, but without being in poor tastes. The colours are refreshing, and the flow of the wings frames the picture. I don't know how the heck I managed a picture as successful as this back then, but I believe that the pencil + digital colour combo also works for me. My ink posters don't seem to pull the weight for me that pencil does.

[link] In the same breath, this DOESN'T sell for a very simple reason. Most people don't want their parents to see the naked guy's ass, and the ones that do have it, have it behind their door. Too erotic. If his ass was covered, I'm picking he'd sell well. Sadly, it's an old picture now so I'll unlikely do so.

OK- post your pics of your products people! I'll see if I can push my own thoughts in too tho help out if you're not sure why it sellss well or doesn't :)

cause of the pretty colours. Oh yes. Should have printed this for DO, actually.

at DO (didn't sell, but was def. popular, and someone nearly bought it which is better than the rest of posters did :D ) - [link]
1. mangaish, so right for audience
2. bloood :mwahaha: nice and dramatic - also the 3d effect at the bottom
3. looks very good from a distance

The postcard of this - [link]
detailed, pretty, and worked well on a tiny postcard (better than online actually)

I can tell you why that one is popular- it has great flow, and contrast. Having bright colours aren't enough for posters- if your image isn't obvious in gray scale, it wont stand out on a wall. I normally work in grey scale, so I'm usually pretty close with my shading, but if you have two dark colours together, they blend alot. Red white and white are a great combo for popping your art out :) That, and it has the Kabuki feel to it, so it feels fanart.

With the postcard thing- EVERYTHING looks clearer printed, and I think that that picture pops out more printed than shrunk. It's the classic example of DA doesn't know best. My best selling prints aren't all my most popular ones here :)

Thanks for the post!

You should do more like the Roxas one. If people are wanting plushies, they tend to go for ones more like that :) Even if you hike up the price a little to reflect. They ARE custom made. I reckon you'd get post con commissions too, so find out how much it is to mail the plushie and make that an option next time you con ;)

~jaubrey does some AWESOME Kingdom Hearts plushies if you're interested in some inspiration. [link] She's not cheap thoguh. It's amazing what you can do with a plush thoguh ^^

If I get on the aucks stall I may do a couple of pre con comishs but I find it easier to make them knowing I don't have a weeks deadline or something lol. That was something I learnt before welly con I left a few things to the last minute on a couple of plushies heh not my best plan (but there were other issues there)
Pricing them is hard. I want to use quality materials and I do spend time on them to make them but then I worry if I price them say over $55 or $60nz they wont sell

*waves hand*

I know that story and can go 1 up on it. Precon stress is something I eat for dinner. All you can do is start planing months in advanced and hope that's enough
