Overload!

Well, Overload was this weekend as many of you will know from various journal entries of sorrow of lack of time and glee when I hit milestones. I REALLY hope I wasn't too upsetting. It was a VERY exhausting time for me mentally, but it was by no means upsetting for me. I enjoyed working on Narcolepsy, and I think some people may have mistaken my lack of endurance for upset, and it really wasn't that. I wanted to do this comic the whole way, but I knew my deadline was tight. I extended it 3 times in the end to make the deadline, receiving the printed comic via urgent courier on 4:30pm on the Friday- half a day before the con and it was SO much better than I expected. Print makes digital art SO much better to me.





Basically, the printer printed it perfectly, and as godd as the comic could get, it got and it's SO awesome to read. It was noticed that I've cut back ALOT on my screen tone use in this comic. Akira666 mentioned that my last comic was very dark which is very true and she expected this one would be too and was pleased to see it wasn't, so I'm really happy to make a step in the correct direction with screen tone. The cover font was slightly let down on my behalf, but seriously, those that gave my comic a go at the convention purchased it and that's what I care about People that looked at internals liked what they saw. I'm considering redoing the cover and replacing the current ones so it's shinnier for it's next con or whatever to fix this. We'll see Hopefully it's easy enough to do.  I sold 12 copies at the con which at an american con is nothing, but in an NZ con is actually pretty good. It can only get better than this too as I release more comics too- reoccurring series sell better than first issues. I have alot to improve on my next Overload though, but I'm still keen as.

The con it's self had NOTICABLY kicked it's self up a knotch.

OH MY GOSH

Wow. Seriously. The print quality this year was outstanding. There was so much I wanted to buy- infact ALL my profits went back into purchasing stuff from other people for the first time. Normally I don't see stuff I like. This year? I like ALOT. I purchased alot of art books this year- I was very surprised. There was alot more comics too. I couldn't afford to purchase all of them either which is great, cause that meant that there was more this year than last!

The-Nai's first artbook. Stunning. This woman has a natural instinct to make awesome on new levels that amaze me. Those that didn't buy this missed out. Only thing I didn't like about this is that there were 2 page spreads where the picture had a big valley fold right in the middle of the picture. I am SO forgiving of this which the rest of the quality though.

An original picture drawn by vefalasiel. you don't see her post much but when you suddenly see her art in person... HOLEY CRAP. And she lowered her originals to $4 on Sunday D: That was... highway robbery! I paid her $5 for mine cause I was so upset how low they were in price for how beautiful they were.

AnonymousTeaParty was an artbook I was originally going to pick up cause I liked the lay out and the art was nice. They then gave me a hint of the theme of the book and suddenly it got infinitely cooler. Each page has a letter of the alphabet as the theme, and the picture is based off that. This completely sold he book for me. IT was an EXCELLENT purchase!



doubtingthomas and I did a comic trade for this comic, and although I've only had a very quick browse though this, it is filled to the BRIM of Thomas's quirky humour. I'm going to read it tomorrow when I'm more rested. IT was great quality besides this cause it came with a free badge. I got frog legged girl which was pretty cool- Thomas had a box with an open mouth opening that you put your hand in and drew at random. BEST EVER. Thomas- you are genius. I wish I had time to come up with awesome stuff like this! I helped Thomas out with how to print this book, and it's turned out a great print Seeing the comic he was working on at the time, and all the others that he and amethrym had completed since made the talk with him so worth it. It is such a RANDOM book <3

Chromatism has to have THE most beautiful cover I've seen on an art book in NZ for ages. I love how it had the matte black background and the gloss sheen over the print. I... wish I knew the fandoms in it though. It's all Vocaloid, Panty Stocking and Garter belt, and other fandoms I didn't know I can appreciate it nether less though

Inkpot (RaiKorn , and PinkGoggles ) made a cute little comic that was very charming and the internal art is SO emotive. I'm sure I'll love this one It has vauge crossdressing elements by the virtue of a gender changing character XD



OMG. Budjinshi V3 came out. I totally flowered Go-Devil-Dante with love over it cause I'm TOTALLY a fan of it's concept. It's so crude and cheap and AWESOME IN SO MANY WAYS. I do miss the crude second hand metal clip they had on the last Budjinshi though. It really made my con for me <3 Anyways, crack was awesome as always. I audibly screamed in horror and delight. It was epic. Go-Devil-Dante even drew naughty Zeth art for me. omg Zeth will slain me for this . Awe man- I love her mind. XD

ZOMFG NIGHT AND DAY 3 CAME OUT AND I TOTALLY HAVE IT AND IT'S TOTALLY AWESOME. I fanned Akira666 with fangirl adoration. Hopefully she's not scared of me forever. I hope she's not... I promise that I'll be more sane after the initial shock is over.... And the bruising from all my hugs will heal... XD No, seriously.  She's honestly one of my favourite DA artists. I've been drooling over her comic for YEARS now. I'm still shaking in excitement of the final conclusion to the story <3 She also gave me free badges of her cover and Adam Lambert. She is GODLY. I'm such a fan of both *u*

Ok, so Moonboy is luckyde's brain child for this con, and since he's an animation junkie, he decided to make a storyboard styled comic which is pretty cool. the cost to print for him was pretty high, but it's an adorable story, and I think it has to be the first spiral bound comic I've ever seen! It's a refreshing change of pace from all the hard core anime art that OVerload has. I love it

moni158 made some badge for the con. I ended up getting the cute Nyancat one, and her artist block one. I love her artist block. It couldn't hurt anyone that little devil <3



Go on- hate on me guys if you saw this at the con. I totally purchased this 1 of print. It is a three way tied of one of my best scores of the con. I REALLY love having a decently finished print for my wall. Lufreeshia did such a BEAUTIFUL job on this. I LOVE it.

I totally prepurchased ArtSchoolSubRosa part 2 also. It didn't arrive on time for her to sell it. I hope it doesn't turn up tomorrow JUST after the con. That'd be horrible I'm so keen to get that, and part 3 when I get it.

onasugarhigh gave me a copy of her 24 hour zine. I wasn't sure if I should include that here cause it wasn't for sale at the con, but I'm putting it out there.


Anyways, The Saturday for me was pretty tiring. I did a few commissions but I really didn't find myself in ANY shape to exibit at this con. I'm really sorry to those of you that got unresponsive Killy. Really- I am. I was zeroed out I managed good tiems with Go-Devil-Dante, and I totally talked houoh into taking his shirt of TWICE in the con to show off his tattoo (YE-YAH), had some good times with various visitors (There was so many of you- you know who you are right?) but otherwise I tried my best to be awesome and energetic, but failed T.T I had capyBAKA over during the weekend though so the two of us totally hung out after and KOed at home on the couch and watched Dexter and House together to make up for lack of energy That was fun.

Sunday was FULLY epic. I got a good long look around the crowd and got to properly hang out with friends of mine over DA. Got to talk heaps with Akira666 , moni158 , sasu-chuu (OMG this girl was on FIRE XD So much yaoi-fu in this one XD) , luckyde , vefalasiel , and the Inkpot girls. I really enjoyed myself. Later on in he day, me and sasu-chu teamed up and modified the YMCA song to YAOI doing the arm signals for YAOI instead of YMCA and pimped the hell out of her art. It was fun. She had ominous smiley faces over potentially naughty bits on her art, and strawberry smelling strawberries censoring Ichigo from Bleach.  I was dying of crack humour. I am SO keen to join the yaoi bandwagon next year. It was MAJOR fun ^^

Anyways, I didn't make much, but that's cool I go for fun and to make others happy with my art which I succeeded in. I learnt alot of lessons this con on sales. I'm confident now that my art can sell well at this con if I do the right things, and this con has been a big lesson on WHAT those things are
